I met Hanna and her mom at my vendor booth at the Midwest Horse Fair this year and I knew right off the bat they'd be so much fun to work with! Hanna is a graduating Senior with plans to attend UW-La Crosse (my alma mater, so I'm very proud!). Her quarter horse, Monte, was show-ring ready when I arrived for her October photoshoot. She and her mom did an amazing job getting him ready and Hanna had some very classy and cute outfits to choose from for her photo session!
There’s something truly timeless about combining senior portraits with the bond between a girl and her horse. For this graduating senior, the shoot was all about celebrating her western roots, her love for her trusty Quarter Horse, Monte, and her sense of chic personal style.
The Little Black Dress & Cowgirl Boots
The session started with a classic twist: a little black dress paired with cowgirl boots. The pairing was effortlessly chic—polished enough for senior portraits while still true to her western flair. Against the backdrop of her Quarter Horse, the look struck the perfect balance between elegance and grit.

Casual Denim for Everyday Memories
Of course, no western-inspired session would be complete without a casual jeans look. This outfit brought out her laid-back side, the moments spent at the barn, and the bond with her horse on ordinary days that still feel extraordinary.
Cowhide Details for Western Charm
Adding in a cowhide prop was such a creative touch. It added texture and charm to Hanna's portraits. Whether draped across a fence or layered into her shots with her horse, the cowhide became more than just a prop—it became part of the story.
A Horse That’s Part of the Family
Her Quarter Horse, Monte, was more than just a beautiful co-star—he was a partner in every frame. From standing tall beside her to nuzzling in close, he gave the session authenticity and warmth that no backdrop could ever replace. Together, they created portraits that will always remind her of this chapter in her life: the end of one season and the start of so many new adventures.
Linen Albums
When it came time for Hanna's gallery reveal, she and her mom knew they wanted an album (I always bring products with to the session so you can see and feel what the sizes and materials look like!). We put together a beautiful 9x12 Mauve Linen Album and the question came up of where this album would live--Hanna is going away to school after all. We decided to make sure both Hanna and her mom had a beautiful copy to enjoy so we went with a small companion duplicate album for Hanna to take with her. It is so adorable, I'm quite jealous and I definitely need one in my own home with my favorite pictures!!

Why This Session Was So Special
Senior year is all about celebrating milestones, achievements, and the unique journey that brought you here. For this senior, her western lifestyle and love for her horse were central to her story. By blending chic style choices with her equestrian passion, her session turned into something unforgettable—photos that are bold, personal, and full of heart.
Frequently Asked Questions About Senior Portraits with Horses
1. Can I include my horse in my senior photos?Absolutely! Many seniors choose to include their horse in their session because it reflects their lifestyle and the bond they share. Horses bring authenticity and personality to your portraits, making them truly one-of-a-kind.
2. What should I wear for equestrian senior portraits?A variety of outfits works best. We recommend one chic look (like a dress with cowgirl boots), one casual everyday look (like jeans and a cute top), and something that feels uniquely you. Adding western-inspired details—such as a cowhide, hat, or statement jewelry—can make your gallery even more personal.
3. How do you make sure my horse looks good in the photos? We use patience, gentle posing, and natural interaction to capture your horse at its best. Whether it’s standing tall beside you or nuzzling in close, your horse will be highlighted beautifully in your senior portraits.
4. What locations work best for senior photos with horses? Most equestrian seniors prefer to shoot at their own barn or pasture since it’s comfortable for the horse. Open fields, fences, and rustic backdrops also create timeless settings for western-inspired senior portraits.
5. Do I need to prepare my horse before the session?Yes, a little prep goes a long way. Groom your horse thoroughly, clean tack if you plan to use it, and bring along treats to keep them happy and cooperative. A relaxed, well-prepared horse helps the session run smoothly.
6. How long is a senior session with a horse?Sessions typically last 1–2 hours, giving plenty of time for outfit changes and breaks for your horse. We’ll pace the session so both you and your horse are comfortable and at ease.
7. Why should I book senior portraits with my horse?Senior year is about celebrating milestones, and for many equestrian seniors, their horse has been a huge part of their journey. Including your horse means you’ll have photos that not only mark your graduation but also preserve the bond you share with your best equine friend.
✨ Thinking about senior portraits with your horse? Whether your style leans classic, western, or somewhere in between, we’ll create a session that feels like you—chic, timeless, and full of personality.
